A Program for Adolescent Girls
Change is inevitable. Growth, however, must be nurtured.
All young people experience various degrees of difficulty
during the stages of maturity. However, adolescent girls encounter
unique challenges which, if left unresolved, may affect their
potential for future success.
The Self Esteem Enhancement Developement program (SEED) is
a group designed exclusively for girls 12 to 15 years of age.
Our goal is to bring girls together in a stimulating group
atmosphere where participants can discover their strengths
and abilities, while learning positive personal and social
skills in an encouraging environment.
There is no cost for girls to participate in the SEED program.
Sessions will occur on a weekly basis at C.O.S.P. over
the course of a 6 to 8 week period and will incorporate videos,
guest speakers, and stimulating interactive activities.
- Self-esteem & Self-acceptance
- Peer Pressure
- Decision making skills and conflict resolution techniques
- Body image & health issues

By offering positive and helpful information about issues
that are important, and increasing awareness of local community
resources, individuals who complete the SEED program will
be better prepared to respond to the changes in their lives.

Youthreach
is a crime prevention initiative that offers programming to
youth aged 12 to 17. These youth may be experiencing difficulty
at home or school and may be displaying anti-social behavior,
such as petty acts of vandalism and theft. Youths may also
be socializing with a negative peer group, experimenting with
alcohol and drugs. Sessions run on a weekly basis at cosp
over the course of a 6 to 8 week period.
Referrals come from parents, schools, police officers, counsellors,
social workers and probation.
Youthreach is aimed at enhancing the lives of youths. Our
goals include: structured leisure time, supportive environment
for youths, supportive emotional and social needs.
There are no costs for youths to participate in the Youthreach
program.
Each client in Youthreach will be provided with support from
agency staff and volunteers. Efforts will be made to assist
the youth in enhancing personal strengths towards the goal
of independent functioning within regular peer groups and
activities.
Youthreach helps to prevent youths' involvement
in the criminal justice system.
The purpose of the Life Skills Development sessions is to
assist youth in developing the ability to make positive choices
in various life areas. Volunteers will provide services for
young persons who typically only receive such service after
they have been placed in the criminal justice system. It is
our intent to prevent such involvement by assisting young
people to develop necessary skills which they may require
to make positive, informed choices.
