probation.
Available to Young Persons
(12-17)
Available to individuals who are on probation and are at
risk.
The Prime Worker program will provide support
for young persons in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties
with a goal of reducing the number of youths requiring custodial
dispositions. The success of this program can be largely
credited to the support it receives from Prime Workers who
act as mentors, tutors and advocates to young persons. They
support clients using current Cognitive Behavioural techniques.
They accomplish this through the establishment of a professional
relationship, positive modelling and a focus on cognitive
learning/thinking errors. Support to youths is given in
areas which they are having the most difficulties such as
school, home or leisure time.
-
reduce the number of admissions to custodial
facilities for breach of probation,
-
develop life skills in the youth using
a cognitive-behavioural approach,
-
increase client self esteem.
Prime Workers are one-to-one counsellors who
support young persons in compliance with their probation
order. Prime Workers act as mentors, tutors and advocates.
Prime Workers strives to support young persons
living in their community while serving their probation
sentence. The program will allow youths who would not typically
qualify for support to participate in the program. Support
is also provided to the young person who is identified as
at risk of breaching probation or who have been breached.
Prime Workers are available through C.O.S.P. Prime
