Community Organized Support & Prevention (COSP)

Volunteer With Us

COSP uses volunteers and post-secondary students for many of our programs. Contact us for further information on volunteering. Your contribution makes a difference.

Board of Directors:

COSP is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors with members from the business sector, community services, Loyalist College, and CFB Trenton; with all having a strong sense of community. They represent both Hastings and Prince Edward Counties and have devoted their time and expertise to govern this agency for over 37 years. Its success today can be attributed to the current membership and to those who have sat as board members in the past. COSP is always looking for community-minded citizens including individuals with backgrounds in legal/law enforcement and proposal writing.

With the creation of our new branding and the development of a Strategic Plan, we are seeking a Board Chair.

Belleville & District Youth Justice Committee:

The success of the Belleville & District Youth Justice Committee is shared by the efficiency of the Coordinator and dedication of its committee members. They comprise of individuals from all walks of society. All volunteer committee members are screened and approved by the Ministry of Attorney General (Crown Attorney) and undergo specific training provided by MAG or one of the community trainers throughout the province.

Once training is completed, the volunteer will be placed within a team, participate in role play scenarios, observe a committee meeting and then participate in another, before becoming a full team member. Volunteers will witness a young person accept responsibility for their behaviour while learning the impact it has had on the person(s) harmed. The volunteer will consult with their team member to select a reasonable and responsibly response which include activities the youth must complete. It is not designed to be punitive but as a means to repair harm by making amends.
